The research activities of the Laboratory cover the following topics of the High Voltage scientific field: Lightning – Protection of human beings, buildings and technical installations against lightning, Breakdown of medium and large air gaps, Backflashover on overhead transmission lines, Dielectric behavior of polluted insulators – Puncture of insulators, Electromagnetic immunity and compatibility, Pre-discharges and breakdown of the combinations ‘gaseous – solid’ and ‘solid – liquid’ insulating materials, Grounding systems, Numerical calculation of electric fields, Influence of electric field and current to human beings.
The High Voltage Laboratory is accredited according to ELOT EN ISO/IEC 17025 for:
- Measurements of the soil resistivity and the grounding resistance in wind turbine parks, PV parks, substations etc.
- Measurements of the insulation resistance of resilient floor coverings installed in critical areas of hospitals, such as emergency rooms (ER) and surgeries.
- Electromagnetic compatibility and immunity tests (EMC) of electronic equipment.
- Dielectric strength tests of medium/high voltage cables and transformers.
