The Power Systems Modelling (PSM) Lab of the University of Cyprus and Hellenic Copper Mines (HCM) Ltd held their first technical meeting at the Skouriotissa mine site. As part of the meeting, HCM provided tours at the facilities, demonstrating the entire production cycle of Copper (mining, crushing, solvent extraction and electrowinning processes). Of particular attention was the electrowinning process (which is directly related to the scope of the project in work package 5), for which the technical discussions were focused. Most importantly, the infrastructure and rectifiers responsible for converting the AC into DC for the electrowinning process were investigated in an attempt to identify potential sources of leakage currents which might have an a substantial effect on the Copper production efficiency.
