As part of WP7, SteelCor Research Infrastructure of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) commenced the first set of experiments. The steel-reinforced concrete specimens were placed in the accelerated corrosion testing chambers, where they will be exposed to salt spray. The specimens were first conditioned to develop microcracks, necessary to simulate real-life scenarios. Continuous salt-spray is a standard test method and also an industrial practice used to evaluate the corrosion resistance. Throughout the duration of the project, the specimens will be subjected to destructive corrosion testing at regular intervals. These experiments aim at evaluating the effects of BIPV and BAPV leakage currents on the building infrastructure.
